Exploration of y2k, rise of 2000s Computation
Inspired by the rise of y2k, Digital Theory and Projection. And “What Is New Media?” In The Language of New Media, by Lev Manovich. I envision creation a project that incorperates both aspects of visualization and projection.
"Media and computer Daguerre’s daguerreotype and Babbage’s Analytical Engine, the Lumiere Cinematography and Hollerith’s tabulator - merge into one. All existing media are translated into numerical data accessible for the computer.” (p. 25)
about
https//:dystopia/y2k.com immerses into the early 2000s digital world, exploring the rise of y2k and cybernetics. "Y2K," short for "the year 2000," that triggered chaos in 1999-2000 with a two-digit shortcut. Widespread panic arose as the date shifted from "99" to "00" at the millennium, fearing computer malfunctions.
Inspired by the digital world of the early 2000s exploring the rise of y2k and cybernetics. https//:dystopia/y2k.com encapsulates the techno-futuristic optimism of the y2k era and the dreamlike allure of surrealism, creating an experiential bridge between two distinct realms.
The exhibition, stands as a powerful testament to the transformative nature of art, transcending boundaries and redefining perceptions. Through a seamless fusion of animation, projection mapping, and y2k aesthetics, the artist extends an invitation to the audience to reconsider their understanding of reality. This immersive project challenges conventional notions, offering a dynamic encounter with the intersection of the digital and the tangible, where the boundaries of art and perception converge.

“What are the ways in which the use of computers to record, store, create and distribute media makes it new?” (p.20)
Before, the computer could read a row of numbers, outputting a statistical result or a gun trajectory. Now it can read pixel values, blurring the image, adjusting its contrast, or checking whether it contains an outline of an object. ” (p.26)

technical + Software
'https//:dystopia/y2k.com' was created using Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop, immersing itself in the digital world of the early 2000s while exploring the rise of y2k and cybernetics. This project utilizes projection mapping to project animations crafted in Adobe After Effects onto physical frames, thereby creating a surreal effect on the audience. By playing with space, surrealism, and physical elements, the installation embraces the immersive nature of projection mapping.

"...the computer has returned to its originals. No Longer just an Analytical Engine, suitable only for crunching numbers, it has become Jacquard’s loom- a media synthesizer and manipulator," (p.26)
